Its exactly what I needed
I recently got a wonderful sewing machine but it is too heavy to take easily to classes so I needed something that was light-weight and still had some of the main features I needed for quilting. I needed a moveable needle and an up-down needle position and didnt want to spend too much for this "extra" machine. I also needed a decent arm length so the fabric could moved easily when sewing. I got all this and more with this Brother CS6000i machine. It also came with a cover (but it is not very sturdy and isnt secure so I dont use it much) and it with many different feet which was extra with other machines. I am very satisfied with my new machine and it is a pleasure to take to class. One suggestion is that if you have trouble with the needle threader like I did you should try to correct the needle placement by pushing the up-down button. That is suppose to put the needle in the correct position for the threader to work. :2010-09-18 15:37:11
Great for Beginners! Easy to Follow Directions
This machine was well worth all the research and time I put into it. I am a beginner sewer and always wanted to learn. I pulled it out of the package and read the directions and everthing I have tried has been great. My daughters love all that I am making on it. First sewing machine Ive owned and love it.

The automatic needle threader is a blessing.
The instructions on the machine for threading a bobbin are great for those that forget things easily. The light is good.
I almost didnt find the sewing tray extension except I had kept the box encase I needed to return it and decided to use the box to help someone move out of their house with. Low and behold there it was in a extra cardboard box. It is really handy when used.
Hemming pant legs and everything else is easier to sew with the accessories box off. I wold recommend getting extra Levis needles because they will break your normal needle if you arent careful.
The only problems Ive had is trying to hem Levies and going over seams this will give you an error code even with a different needle. To fix this I just skip over the seam and start sewing again. Also really thin material will sometimes jam with the thread wr :2010-09-16 03:32:34
WORKS NICELY EVEN WITH JEANS
I was looking for a basic sewing machine and was comparing a few different brands and models. After I red most of the reviews I had a mixed feeling about this sewing machine because of some of the poor reviews. I couldnt place the order but my husband had a couple pairs of pants that needed to be fixed. Considering that the price is roughly equal to four five pairs of his pants I decided to purchase it. The machine arrived two days after my order and the packaging was fine.
Both my husband and I are truly beginners and have used the machine to fix three pairs of pants one jacket and even one pair of jeans. I was really concerned to use the machine on the jeans since some reviews said that the machine did not work well with thick materials. But I needed to alter the length of the jeans so I tried. Love this machine!
I love this sewing machine. I had an old Kenmore and it finally gave out. I dont do a lot of sewing mostly hemming and mending. Sometimes I do make something. My first project was to make cornice for the windows in the back of our home. The windows are long so I did sew pieces together. I have put in new zippers and fixed some items that have just been laying around unuseable. Great machine for beginners or just menders and fixers like me. Good price also! :2010-09-16 03:32:34
